Ballina and the neighbouring towns and villages are not all about the surf and the beaches. As we get closer to summer the quieter, shadier places are more suitable on the long, hot afternoons.
One such place is Lake Ainsworth at Lennox Head, about 10 minutes north of Ballina. The lake is a fresh water tea tree lake, and is just across the road from the Lennox Head surf club.
As you can see from the pictures below, if you pick the right day it is a perfect spot to escape from the heat and sit for a quiet lunch. The kids can have a swim in the lake in full view of barbecues and seating areas.
Because it is an enclosed freshwater lake it does tend to have some water quality issues, so check the Ballina Council website for the status. Signage is also prominent, so check it out when you arrive.
Lake Ainsworth is a beautifully unique location on the North Coast, so it is well worth the visit. Talk to the staff at the Ramada Ballina Byron Hotel and Suites during your stay for directions to Lennox Head and Lake Ainsworth.
