In our Sunday Walkabout this week we traveled to South Wall in South Ballina. South Wall is the breakwall on the southern side of the Richmond River and can be accessed from the Burns Point Ferry.
Although you look straight across the river from the hotel, the trip from the centre of town is about 20 minutes. It is well worth the effort, with some pristine mangrove wetlands and sparsely populated beaches greeting you from the ferry. It offers a great view back across to the Ballina township and all the watercraft activities on the river.
As you walk out on to the wall, the views south along South Ballina Beach will on most occasions reveal more birds than people.
